Unlike many of his contemporaries, Spivakovsky was able to render the modern percussive style without losing the expressive qualities of the music. In 1953 he was asked to perform Benjamin Britten’s piano concerto in D Major at an Australian State Concert celebrating the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The West Australian described his playing as "massively brilliant."
