Spivakovsky toured the United States for the first time in 1947-8, making his debut there with Efrem Kurtz and the Kansas City Orchestra. From the Kansas City Times after their performance of Brahms' piano concerto in D Minor: "He gave the impression of great physical and intellectual power … his playing of the Andante movement was a thing of real beauty and understanding."
